Course Description

Through the course, students learn to identify aesthetic and narrative developments from 1895 to the end of the Second World War, as well as their influence on cinematic language. Through screenings and the analysis of selected film excerpts, they are guided towards an understanding and classification of cinematic art.

After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • approach the history of world cinema through chronological periods; 
  • identify major technical developments and their impact on cinematic language; 
  • classify films into schools, movements, and genres.
